For many Swedish athletes, the economy is the highest bar to jump. The Swedish Olympic athletes are no exception. The socioeconomic situation for the elite athletes is one of SOC´s ( Sweden’s Olympic Association) priorities to increase the support system for a sustainable life.
Top performers in minor sports are forced to risk their finances to compete at an elite level, while some children and young people opt out of sports altogether because their families cannot afford it. “Fritidsbanken” is an important player in this.
This seminar aims to take on the question from a pragmatic perspective and look at the newest findings on how we level the playing field and make sports accessible for everyone on all levels.

Paris 2024 is the first Olympics ever to achieve full gender parity, at least in the number of men and women competing. However, there is still a long way to go before we have reached a truly equal world of sports. The Swedish Olympic Committee´s long-term goal is to double the number of female Olympic coaches in 2028 and 2030. In this seminar, we will present the action plan and discuss how to bring more women in sports to leadership positions.
